Even though HB4789 passed the House by a vote of 111-000-000, the bill was not called out of the Senate Rules committee. We have been notified that the bill is dead for this year. Thank you to Senator Haine and Senator Althoff for sponsoring the bill in the Senate.

2008 Legislation Update

I have great news to add to the blog. Rep. Karen May has introduced HB4789. The bill was introduced February 6, 2008. The synopsis of the bill reads as follows:

"Amends the Radon Industry Licensing Act. Requires the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Pollution Control Board, to adopt rules for radon control for all new residential buildings. Requires that these rules incorporate the radon control methods set forth in the International Residential Code. Effective immediately."
