HB4789 out of Environment & Energy Committee

Illinois HB4789 has been amended in committee to create a new law and has been voted out of the Environment and Energy Committee. The amendment reads as follows:

"Deletes everything after the enacting clause. Creates the Radon-Resistant Residences Act. Creates the Radon-Resistant Building Codes Task Force for the purpose of making recommendations to the Governor, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Pollution Control Board concerning the adoption of rules for building codes.
Requires the Governor, in coordination with the Agency, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Pollution Control Board, to propose rules to the General Assembly for radon control for all new residential buildings in the State. Requires that these rules incorporate the radon control methods set forth in the International Residential Code. Effective immediately"

The amended bill is currently on the House calendar for second reading.
